Shop Smart for Spring Fashion and Save23 Sep 2019
Spring is in the air and it’s time to start dressing for the warmer weather. Raquel Taylor from @myclothesraq put together looks for the whole family using some of my savvy saver methods. If everything in your wardrobe feels so last year then I have a few ways to get your new season wardrobe sorted without breaking the bank.
Not so basic basics
An instant way to look and feel on trend is to select a few basic pieces such as jeans and a t-shirt that are contemporary and also true to your personal style. This Cotton On outfit consists of a stretched mom jean with rips and a classic striped t-shirt which looks effortless when paired with slides and sunglasses. Each item can be worn with other basic pieces such as the t-shirt with a denim skirt or the jeans with a singlet creating a powerful capsule wardrobe.
Boss Babe one minute. Fashionista the next.
If you need to buy outfits for work related reasons why not buy things that you actually love and declare it's work attire with the addition of a blazer. Once the job is done lose the jacket and embrace your true style. Harris Scarfe is one retailer at Midland Gate that offers a good variety of modern corporate options at very attractive prices. This red leopard print Khoko dress is a mock wrap, a good length and is a statement piece suitable for lunch and evening outings. The dress paired with the Khoko Emily block heel and the draped revere City jacket is perfect for some serious business.
Hero investment pieces
I like to weigh up my potential purchases with the cost per wear in mind. Basically I consider how much the investment is and how often will I wear it. Pieces that can be worn all year round such as a maxi skirt in winter with boots and spring with sandals is easier to justify.
I also consider how many different looks I can create with each piece. Take this Katies outfit for example, the ruched sleeve linen blazer looks fabulous with the front split midi skirt but it can also be worn with pants, shorts and dresses. The midi skirt can be paired with a singlet and a denim jacket for a relaxed bohemian look. The white short sleeve tie front top would look stunning with denim shorts, skirts and jeans. Each piece of this Katies outfit was selected with other potential looks in mind to make the most out of each purchase.
Let the bargain hunting begin
I'm a bargain hunter from way back. Give me a sales rack or a value for money store anyday and I can put together a look that makes you want to tell everyone how little everything cost. I recommend taking the time to explore stores you wouldn't usually gravitate towards and see what you can find.
When I was out window shopping at Midland Gate I was impressed with the menswear retailer Lowes. Once I walked passed the racks of their signature Hawaiian shirts I discovered they have casual clothing, tradie workwear and corporate attire with many pieces being more modern and of higher quality than I first gave it credit for. I found a charcoal tee with a skull print that works well with their Trader canvas cargo shorts. The outfit can be finished off perfectly with a pair of canvas slip on shoes, a Trilby hat and a pair of Malibu sunglasses. Each piece is low priced with a modern element allowing you look and feel on trend without spending a fortune.
Get your party shoes on
If you find your kids have outgrown their weekend bests since last spring, rather than buying new party dresses or collared shirts and trousers start with comfortable everyday wear and fancy it up with a new pair of shoes. You will find the same outfit would be suitable for a birthday party this week and a simple day at the park the following week. Ollie's Place has the most adorable selection for both boys and girls fashion, from newborns to primary school aged kids. I couldn't look passed their teal ice-cream tee which works so well with their pink strap dress and a pair of glitter shoes. This look is fresh and presentable and the items are so comfortable they will be worn on high rotation this spring.
Feel free to leave a comment with your savvy shopping ways.
May your spring be fun, fabulous and fashionable.
