We’re pretty lucky in Western Australia that we have some amazing local produce. WA Growers Fresh make it easy for us to access these amazing fruits and veges, as well as some other locally made artisan products. Owner Yung enjoys helping customers discover delicious produce, and we got to ask her a few questions!
Yung gave us some recommendations for what produce to choose over the next few months. “In autumn, grapes are the way to go. When we move into winter, citrus fruit will keep you healthy and taste delicious! When we move into Autumn, pears and apples are the way to go.”
Yung’s customers are always making her day. She recalled a particular experience that really stuck with him/her! “One of our customers received more change than she was meant to be given. We wouldn’t have known, except she ended up sending a Christmas letter to us with the rest of the money. It really shows that the community has great and honest individuals.”
Customers also make Yung smile with their sometimes-crazy requests! “A family was doing some kind of bake sale and decided to do banana bread. They asked us if they could buy all of our (very) ripe bananas. They went out with 2 full carts of banana cartons!”
When he/she’s not busy at WA Growers, Yung enjoys shopping with local businesses at the Centre and around the Midland community. “I also love gardening as it is very peaceful and gives me the time to unwind and bond with my family.”
Back at the store, there’s so much fresh produce that it can be hard to choose where to start. So, we asked Yung what she would pick if she could only eat one product from WA Growers for the rest of her life! “Mandarins as they are the best. They’re effective during cold seasons and they taste really nice — both sour and sweet!”
And if you’re looking for some other products to try, Yung told us that some of their most popular products are not what you might expect. “Our exotic fruit and vegetables are very popular. A lot of people have difficulty finding them as they’re not readily available in just any supermarket or fruit veg shop.”
So, if it’s fresh, local produce you’re after, make sure you visit Yung and the team at WA Growers Fresh. Not only will you be able to get your hands on some delicious items, but you’ll also be supporting a locally owned and operated business.
